A.B.
Fitch started his lumber business in 1907, twenty miles north
of Carrboro in Mebane. As the University of North Carolina prospered
and the town grew, he opened a "delivery station"
in Carrboro in 1923. Bernice Fitch, A.B.'s oldest son, was sent
to manage the new office. The town continued to grow, building
flourished and, in 1945, Miles, Bernice's brother, joined him
in the business. That same year, fire destroyed the Mebane store
and all operations were moved to Carrboro. Since then, Fitch
Lumber and Hardware has continued to expand its goods and services
to meet the needs of the town and its residents. Come by and
